First Win, Forever Memories: Rainhill U11s Shine in a Joyful Breakthrough

Scorecard

On a sunny Friday evening at home, Rainhill’s Under 11s lit up the ground with a performance brimming with heart, teamwork and a growing sense of self-belief. This spirited group, mostly newcomers to the game and playing together in just their first season, took on Old Xaverians and earned their first win — a moment that will linger long in their cricketing memories.

Old Xaverians opted to bat first, and Rainhill’s bowlers took to the field with eager energy. The bowling was shared around generously, offering everyone a chance to shine — and they did. Sarah, weaving her leg spin with lovely flight and control, struck early with a wicket that set the tone. Theo’s tidy over earned a breakthrough that lifted the whole team, and Jess marked a special milestone, celebrating her very first wicket — a just reward for her perseverance and growing confidence with the ball. Harry Milnes bowled with great spirit, picking up a well-earned wicket, and Teddy Lewis kept things tidy with a calm and focused over. There was clever fielding, encouraging words flying around the pitch, and a feeling that this team, though young, were playing for each other.

With 269 on the board to chase in pairs format, Rainhill’s batters stepped in with quiet determination and plenty of encouragement ringing from the sidelines. The partnerships, many between siblings, brought a heartwarming rhythm to the innings. Jess and Matthew, sharing the crease as brother and sister, and Harper and Margot followed.

Harry Pearson brought fireworks with a fluent 18 not out, and Theo added real impetus with a confident 14. Sarah, as ever composed, contributed an unbeaten 8, guiding her younger teammates with a reassuring presence. Austin batted with flair and intent, racking up an eye-catching 15. Harry Milnes chipped in with smart running between the wickets, while Teddy Lewis played his part with a composed knock and a cool head. In true Rainhill style, everyone had a go, everyone played a part — and everyone made it count. Extras helped the cause along, but the intent was clear: this was a team growing in belief, not just chasing a win, but playing for the sheer joy of it.

Rainhill finished on 303 net, sealing a well-deserved and jubilant first victory. More than the numbers, though, what stood out was how far this team has come in just a short time. Six of the ten players only started playing hardball competitive cricket this year — encouraging each other, celebrating together, and learning as one.

This season was always about building foundations, and now, with a win under their belts, the team have shown just how far passion, effort, and camaraderie can take them. There’s so much more to come for this group — and they’re loving every minute of the journey.
