Scorecard

Rainhill CC’s Under-15 team clinched another win to maintain their unbeaten streak, overcoming both Westleigh CC and the elements.

Rainhill, having won their previous two matches, were eager to extend their winning streak.  Nathan Lawler, entered the match off the back of impressive scores in his last two games and did not disappoint, adding another notable innings to his season, hitting 40 off 30 balls.  His effort included two sixes and three fours.  Despite losing his opening partner early, Lawler’s confident stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking.  Finnlee Millar also contributed a valuable 23 runs, helping stabilise the innings after a few quick wickets. Rainhill’s innings benefited from Westleigh’s somewhat loose bowling, which conceded 19 extras.

In response, Westleigh started their chase under increasingly challenging conditions as the light faded.  They managed to put up 74 for 7 in their 20 overs, with Daniel Armstrong top-scoring with 17 runs. However, Rainhill’s bowlers, led by Jack Tyms who took three wickets for 16 runs, kept the pressure on throughout.  Sid Ram and Tejas Sirikonda also bowled economically, taking a wicket each, disrupting Westleigh’s middle order.

Westleigh’s response was hampered by Rainhill’s sharp fielding. Harry Ball made an outstanding catch.  Additionally, the fielding unit executed a couple of vital run-outs that kept the pressure high on Westleigh.  Behind the wickets, Freddie Foulkes, in only his third game as a wicketkeeper, performed impressively, securing a catch and a stumping, contributing significantly to restricting Westleigh to 74 for 7.

Rainhill’s young team secured a win that keeps them at the top of the league standings and as they gear up for the next match, Rainhill can be proud of a team that not only plays to win but also grows in confidence with every game.
