South Liverpool CC 112/7 (net score 277)
Rainhill CC 127/5 (net score 302)
Rainhill Women’s Softball team, The Rockettes, put in a well-rounded performance on home turf to record a convincing win against South Liverpool in the Women’s Softball Super 8s League Division 1.
Playing under the pairs format, Rainhill won the toss and chose to field first—a decision that paid off as they restricted the visitors to a net score of 277, before chasing it down confidently to post a winning net total of 302.
The bowling unit combined accuracy with energy, taking seven wickets and keeping South Liverpool’s scoring under control. Kerry Lawler was the standout, claiming three wickets for 20, in her four-over spell and capping off her effort with a sharp catch off her own bowling. Sarah Curlett supported well, taking 1 for 30 from her four overs, while the rest of the attack shared the workload to keep the visitors under pressure.
Although extras proved costly at times, Rainhill’s fielding and commitment in the field helped limit the damage.
Chasing 278 to win, Rainhill got off to a confident start thanks to a strong opening partnership from Cassie Hopkins and Lucy Williams. The pair batted with intent, rotating the strike well and setting a solid platform for the innings. Cassie contributed a positive 17, while Lucy remained composed and unbeaten on 11, giving Rainhill early control of the chase.
Next in were Julie Foulkes and Jayne Curlett, who kept the momentum going with a steady and sensible approach. They batted with good awareness, minimising risks and ensuring the scoreboard continued to move without further pressure.
Sue Lowrie and debutant Suzanne Morrrisey followed, with Sue adding real spark to the innings by launching a six on her way to 18 not out. Suzanne handled her first outing with confidence, supporting the partnership well and helping to keep Rainhill in the hunt.
Going into the final pair, Rainhill needed 24 runs to win—a challenge that was met head-on by captain Sarah Curlett and Kerry Lawler. Sarah played a captain’s knock of the highest quality, blasting an unbeaten 45 from just 18 balls to turn the game decisively in Rainhill’s favour. The pair calmly guiding the side past the target without the need to run many singles!
Rainhill closed on 127 for 5, securing a net score of 302 and a well-deserved victory. With three more league points secured, the performance reflected the growing strength, depth, and belief within the squad. It was a full team effort, underpinned by decisive leadership and contributions throughout the order.
