Rainhill Women’s Softball Team Top of the League with a Win Over Old Xavs

Rainhill CC – Women’s Softball emerged victorious in their league match against Old Xaverians CC – Women’s 1st XI on Sunday, 21st July 2024, at St Francis Xavier School, as part of the Liverpool Competition Women & Girls League – Women’s Softball Super 8s League Division 2 2024.

Rainhill CC won the toss and elected to field.  Old Xaverians posted a score of 72 for 4 in their 16 overs, translating to a net score of 252.  Despite Old Xaverians’ modest total, Rainhill’s bowlers conceded too many wides, which significantly contributed to the opposition’s score.  However, Rainhill’s tight fielding performance restricted Old Xaverians to just one boundary throughout their innings. Kerry Lawler took a wicket and a catch off Cassie Hopkins bowling, Emily Lowrie also shone with the ball, claiming two wickets and nearly achieving a hat trick and there was a wicket for Sarah Curlett.

In response, Rainhill CC chased confidently, scoring 81 for 1 in their 16 overs, resulting in a net score of 276.  The batting performance was spearheaded by Sarah Curlett, the captain, who scored an impressive 23 runs at almost two runs per ball.  Jayne Curlett contributed significantly with 12 runs from 14 balls.  The team maintained a steady run rate throughout their innings, ensuring a comfortable chase.  Rainhill’s disciplined batting effort, combined with their fielding, kept Old Xaverians at bay and prevented them from capitalising on any scoring opportunities.

Overall, Rainhill CC – Women’s Softball secured the win comfortably.  This victory highlights Rainhill CC’s consistent performance and solidifies their standing at the top of the league.
