Rainhill 1st XI started the 2025 season with a close fought win over Colwyn Bay CC in the first round of Ray Digman Trophy.
Winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Rainhill got off to a great start, reducing the visitors to 24-4. Opening bowlers Jamie Harrison and Jack Lowrie taking 2 wickets a piece in their first spell. Colwyn Bay fought back with a middle order surge, building strong partnerships. Sion Morris (36) steadied the ship followed by Sion Morris playing aggressively producing 63 from 51 balls, Colwyn Bay finishing with 194/9 from their allotted 45 overs.
Rainhill’s bowling highlights was Jack Lowrie, finishing with figures of 8-0-42-4 and Jamie Harrison producing figures of 9-3-25-3.
Rainhill’s reply got off to a positive start, Bilal Khan (30) and Rainhill debutant Alex Winiarski got a partnership of 46 for the 2nd wicket. Rainhill then lost consistent wickets, but one player remained strong, Alex Winiarski anchoring Rainhill’s chase with a score of 73 from 94 balls. Winiarski was supported by skipper Jamie Harrison, (32) producing a partnership of 49 for the 6th wicket. Jack Lowrie showing huge improvement with the bat, playing a great innings of 28 not out from 34 balls, alongside Darren Tyms, to see Rainhill home with 2 balls remaining.
Next weekend, Rainhill first’s travel to Northern for their first league game of the season.
