Scorecard

Rainhill’s Kiran Nair hit a valiant unbeaten 104 for the 4th XI in their league match at Liverpool on Sunday.  It was his second century of the season following on from his 130 in a match-winning effort against Leigh.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, the weather intervened to prevent any chance of a similar result.  Having won the toss Rainhill decided to bat. Nair and Panchu Xavier opened, scoring at a rate of five per over. Nair stayed in throughout the innings and was assisted by various team-mates who helped take the score to 205 for 4 from 35 overs. He shared positive partnerships with Motsim Khan, Neil Robinson, Colin Moran and Paul Valentine.

Rainhill were happy with the target they had posted but rain, which had started during the Rainhill innings, had got steadily worse. Liverpool’s reply started in the wet conditions and Matt Diggins took the wicket of Martin Sidaway with the first ball of the innings. Unfortunately heavy rain came in shortly afterwards and the game had to be abandoned.

While the game ended on a disappointing note, it should not detract from Kiran’s fantastic performance with the bat.

Many thanks to Colin Moran for the match report.
