Rainhill CC’s 2nd XI took on Old Xaverians CC’s 2nd XI in a match that ultimately ended in a draw. Winning the toss, Old Xaverians elected to field first, putting Rainhill to the test on their home ground.
Rainhill CC posted a total of 140 for 8 declared in 37 overs. The top scorer for Rainhill was James Clarke, who played a steady innings, scoring 37 runs off 59 balls with five boundaries. Jack Lowrie provided significant support with a composed 34 off 63 balls, hitting four boundaries. Contributions from Sam Hopkins (15) and Nathan Lawler (14) helped Rainhill reach a competitive total. Kieran Grierson was the pick of the bowlers for Old Xaverians, claiming 4 wickets for 51 runs in his 19-over spell, showcasing excellent control and perseverance. Aidan Ellis also bowled well, picking up 3 wickets for 21 runs.
In reply, Old Xaverians struggled to build momentum, finishing their 28 overs at 79 for 6. Mark Dilworth top-scored with 23 off 51 balls, supported by Danny Bowers with a quick 16. However, Rainhill’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Darren Tyms and Stephen Pennington with two wickets each, kept Old Xaverians in check. Jack Lowrie, in particular, was exceptional with the ball, 8-4-10-1, maintaining a superb economy rate. Nathan Lawler and Jack Lowrie also contributed with crucial wickets to halt the visitors’ progress.
Despite effort from both sides, the match concluded in a draw, with Rainhill taking home six points and Old Xaverians five.
