Rainhill 132-10 (Harrison 23, Williamson 22; Lees 3-35)
Ormskirk 133-3 (Rankin 61, Turner 41; O’Toole 2-25)
Rainhill progressed through to the second round of the Liverpool Echo T20 competition with a solid team win away to Hightown St Marys.
With rain around on a chilly Thursday evening, the game was reduced to 16 overs per side.
Losing the toss and being put into bat, Rainhill lost opener Ross Higham in the second over. Fellow opener, Bilal Khan shown positive attacking shots, carrying his bat throughout Rainhill’s innings, finishing 57 not out from 47 balls, including 6 fours. Bilal’s innings was a thorn in the home team’s side, with a combination of boundary hitting and good quality of running, supported well by his fellow Rainhill batters. Rainhill finished with a score of 133 for 3 from their allocated 16 overs.
Captain Jamie Harrison opened the bowling for Rainhill and started off great, removing Hightown’s opener with the first ball of the home sides innings. Harrison then followed that with another wicket just 3 balls later. Rainhill’s bowlers collectively kept a tight hold on the home teams run rate, prohibiting them to gain any momentum in chasing the target score of 134. Hightown falling short, accumulating a score of 83-5 from the allotted 16 overs.
Rainhill move on to the next round.
