Rainhill’s first team secured a comprehensive win away to New Brighton, winning by 9 wickets, thanks to overseas professional Khalid Usman’s terrific bowling spell of 5-11.
Due to heavy morning rain, the game was delayed, only starting at 2.30pm.
Winning the toss, captain Jamie Harrison decided to bowl first. Harrison and Liam O’Toole started positively, ensuring early wickets were taken whilst keeping the New Brighton batting line up restricted to less than two an over. Coming on in the 12th over, what followed next was a spell of 10-4-11-5 from Rainhill’s overseas professional Khalid Usman, which combined with Jamie Harrison, (14-7-20-3) Rainhill continuously took wickets, seeing New Brighton bowled out for a total of 46.
Following a great knock in a previous T20 fixture, Bilal Khan opened the batting. Combined with Mike Rotheram at 3, the two put together a 48-run partnership. Bilal finishing with 27 not out from 29 and Rotheram 22 not out from 36, securing a 9 wicket win for the away side.
