Scorecard

Our 1st team’s introductory run out of the delayed 2024 season started with a positive draw against a hard-working Wallasey team, thanks for to Procter’s & Ullah’s efforts with the bat & ball.

There were debuts for Jamie Harrison as captain, alongside Saeed Ullah, an off-season signing from Wavertree, playing his first game in Rainhill colours.

Winning the toss and batting first Rainhill worked hard to negotiate early season conditions and a Wallasey bowling line up that showed patience and consistency, managing a total of 156 all out.

Many Rainhill batters got themselves in, showing their hard work during the winter months had made a difference although Rainhill continued to lose wickets at the hand of Wallasey’s excellent overseas professional Sumit Ruikar, (7-60).  Luke Procter top scored with a patient, hard-working 51, showing his combination of skill and experience.

At the halfway point Rainhill understood that to gain their first win of the season they would need to start well, taking early wickets and restricting runs.

A combination of debutant Saeed Ullah, (24-10-36-4) and Luke Procter, (21-11-31-4) Rainhill stood up to the task and bowled beautiful in tandem, taking early wickets and restricting the Wallasey batters to 100-8 from 49 overs. Sumit Ruikar, (46) and Harry Meehan, (30 not out) showed resistance for the home team, unallowing Rainhill to take the final two wickets and earn the draw.
