10 Wicket Win for Rainhill U15s First Match of the Season

In their first game of the season at The Park, Rainhill CC’s Under 15 team emerged victorious against Winstanley Park CC’s Griffins in the Wigan and District Junior Cricket League clash.

With a delayed start due to rain, resulting in the match being reduced to 16 overs per side, Rainhill won the toss and opting to field.  Rainhill restricted Winstanley Park to a modest total of 49 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 16 overs.  Max Worthington top-scored with 20 runs, while Kian Walsh contributed 15 runs to the Griffins’ total.  Rainhill’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Owen Morrissey and Ayaan Maheshwari claiming two wickets each, with both of Ayaan’s wickets caught by the captain, Nathan Lawler.

Chasing a target of 50 runs for victory, Rainhill’s openers Nathan Lawler and Sid Ram displayed a mature batting performance, guiding their team to victory without losing a wicket. Nathan led the charge with an impressive 25 runs, supported by Sid Ram’s composed 17 runs, ensuring Rainhill reached the target in just 9.5 overs.

The match saw notable contributions from U13 players Finn Millar and Ayaan Maheshwari, who seamlessly integrated into the Under 15 team.  Additionally, U11 player Sarah Lawler stepped up admirably to complete Rainhill’s team numbers, exemplifying the club’s ethos of developing juniors.

With this win, Rainhill CC’s Under 15 team will hope to build on this momentum and continue to make strides in the Wigan and District Junior Cricket League, setting the stage for further success in the season ahead.
