Rainhill Women Deliver Dominant All-Round Performance to Defeat Maghull

Rainhill 96/4  (net score 276)
Maghull 75/4 (net score 255)

Rainhill Women’s 1st XI produced a composed and confident performance to claim victory over Maghull in the Women’s Hardball Super 8s League Division 2 on Tuesday 6th May.

Winning by 21 net runs, Rainhill put in a solid all-round performance, with bat and ball, highlighted by a standout debut from 12-year-old Annabelle Clifford.

Batting first after Maghull chose to field, Rainhill showed intent from the outset. Openers laid the foundation, and the innings was steadied by the calm presence of Annabelle Clifford, who hit an assured unbeaten 16 in her very first senior women’s match. Her poise under pressure and intelligent shot selection helped the team build momentum at a crucial stage. Captain Sarah Curlett led by example, finishing unbeaten on 21, while Niamh Scarborough added a fluent 16.
Despite four wickets falling, Rainhill kept the scoreboard moving and ended on 96 for 4 from their 16 overs, posting a strong net score of 276.

The bowlers then backed up the batting display with a disciplined effort. Curlett took charge again with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for just 15 runs in her four overs, keeping the pressure firmly on Maghull. Clifford, also claimed a wicket, showcasing her ability as a genuine all-rounder. Lucy Strettle bowled tightly to grab another scalp, and the entire Rainhill fielding unit supported well to keep Maghull restricted.

Maghull never quite got going in their reply, managing 75 for 4 from their 16 overs to finish with a net score of 255—short of Rainhill’s total. With three more league points secured and confidence growing in the squad, this result reflects the positive direction Rainhill are heading.
