In a tense quarter-final encounter of the Liverpool Competition Junior League Under 11s Knockout (South), Rainhill CC – Under 11s Amazons demonstrated resilience and teamwork to secure victory against Widnes CC – Under 11 at Widnes Cricket Club Ground.
The match, which had been delayed twice due to weather, finally took place on a sunny evening, setting the stage for a gripping contest.
Opting to field after winning the toss, Widnes faced a formidable challenge against Rainhill’s batting lineup.
Widnes won the toss and elected to field, presenting Rainhill with the opportunity to set a target for their opponents. Despite some of the Rainhill youngsters having limited experience or game time, they gave their all on the field, showcasing their talent and determination.
In their batting innings, Rainhill encountered a disciplined bowling attack from Widnes. However, players like Annabelle Clifford, Benjamin Shute, Alex Rustidge, and Sarah Lawler displayed remarkable composure and contributed valuable runs to the team’s total. Despite facing a challenging situation, they gave their best effort and played crucial roles in steering Rainhill to a competitive score of 82 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
In response, Widnes CC struggled to find momentum against Rainhill’s disciplined bowling attack. Sarah Lawler’s bowling of 2-1-2-1, supported by Reggie, Nathan and Sam, maintained pressure on the opposition restricting them to a total of 83 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 15 overs.
The match was was a great all round performance with bat, ball and fielding with very few mistakes or missed chances. Every member of the Rainhill team, regardless of experience, showcased commitment and dedication, embodying the spirit of the game.
With this hard-fought victory, Rainhill CC – Under 11s Amazons now advance to the semi-finals, where they will face a tough clash against Sefton Park Red.
