In a riveting encounter at Victoria Terrace, Rainhill CC Ground, Rainhill Under 15s displayed exemplary skill and teamwork to clinch victory against Wigan CC’s Wigan Wizards U15s.
After winning the toss, Wigan Wizards U15s elected to bat first, setting a target of 102 runs for Rainhill to chase. Lucas Harrison led the charge for Wigan, retiring not out after a commanding innings of 72 runs, supported by contributions from James Juckes, Liam Culshaw, and Anna Juckes.
Rainhill’s bowlers put up a disciplined effort, with Jack Tyms, Harry Ball, and Sid Ram picking up crucial wickets. Nathan Lawler picked up a wicket too, thanks to a stumping by Freddie Foulkes, in only his second match as wicket keeper. Fin Venables has stepped up from 13s, to play in his first U15s match and bowled well, helping to restrict Wigan to 102 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 16 overs.
In response, Rainhill’s batting lineup showcased resilience and determination, led by Nathan Lawler. Lawler exhibited his batting prowess with a stellar innings, retiring not out after scoring an impressive 70 runs off 48 balls, ably supported by Sid Ram. Once Lawler retired, there was a flurry of late wickets, however, Rainhill successfully chased down the target with 14 balls to spare, finishing on 103 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 14.4 overs.
