Rainhill Women’s 1st XI Fall Short Against Southport

Scorecard

On a sunny evening at Rainhill CC Ground, Rainhill won the toss and elected to field first against Southport & Birkdale. The visitors, having won their last four matches, posed a formidable challenge for Rainhill, who are relatively new to hardball cricket with varying levels of experience.

Southport & Birkdale started confidently, with Cyra Cornell-Cain leading their charge with 18 runs off 16 balls.  Despite some resistance from the Rainhill bowlers, including Kerry Lawler’s economical maiden over, Southport managed to post a competitive total of 143 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 16 overs.

In response, Rainhill struggled against a disciplined bowling attack. Sarah Curlett top-scored with a determined 26 runs off 16 balls.  Emily Lowrie (11 runs) and Sue Lowrie (11 runs), each contributing to support Sarah’s innings of 26 runs, but Rainhill couldn’t forge partnerships to chase down the target and the team fell short, finishing their innings with 80 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 16 overs.

Ultimately, Southport & Birkdale emerged victorious, showcasing their experience and effective gameplay. Rainhill, while showing promise and determination, will seek to improve in future matches as they continue to adapt to the challenges of hardball cricket.
